The end is near

June 30, 2007

Our daughter is about to move!

There are about 30 days left on her lease, she hasn’t even been there a year.  We hope this does not become a pattern, but we also don’t want to butt in. (even though that is a common position for her to take.)  We also really do think this move is a good idea.

Right now she is living in a pretty basic, bared boned, one wombed apartment.  Its a very small place, poor lighting, and no real furniture to speak of.  Though she does have heat and a unique but functional plumbing system. There are also no windows, and to get to the back yard is too difficult to even make it worth it.  There are some perks.  Free rent, free food, privacy.  But she can hear people through the thin walls, and there are condensation issues.  The food is not exactly pretty to look at, but again the lighting is so poor that is not an issue, plus she has found a pretty unique way to not even have to feed herself.    She often bangs on the ceiling or kicks the floor to let the landlord know she’s got issues, she’s actually has a lot of work to do in communicating things in a healthy way.

She is pretty reclusive and literally never goes out, but we’re hoping that changes soon.  We just want her to see what’s out there ya know, she has so much potential.

Hostile Takeover

June 22, 2007

The other day I came home tired and weary from a long day. Not a bad day, not anything horrible, a pretty normal long day I have a couple of times a week. Much like days you probably have. I felt like I had nothing left in my tank for anything or anyone.  Everything seemed too big to handle, everyone seemed like someone to be avoided.  When these moods hit me, and they can hit with regularity, it doesn’t stop there….it usually then tends to lead to feeling like being disobedient, ungodly, and destructive. It feels like evil is threatening a hostile takeover of my mind.  Does this ever happen to you?  If you said no…you aren’t being honest with yourself.

7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. (Romans 8:7)

This sinful nature….lives in you and me, and will be there with us till we get our new bodies someday.  Sounds depressing…and at times it is isn’t it?

But..here’s the good news…

9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) 10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. 11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.

So for now…we live in the tension…between our sinful nature, and the Spirit of Christ living in us.  Thank God He lives in us.  And follow hard after the Spirit today.

Some more firsts…

June 18, 2007

Macy_baseball_046

When Macy was first born…I remember over and over thinking…this is the first time she has done this, or seen that, or felt this…

Those are fewer are farther between now..but there are still many firsts to be had for her.  Today was the first time we played a little baseball.  With Hello Kitty equipment of course.

I was actually quite impressed with how coach-able she was.  She was able to catch with her mitt…and she made connection with the ball three good times!  But my favorite part was her smiles, her giggles, and her belly laughs as we enjoyed the outdoors together!!

At first her batting style looked more like a golf swing..and we did have a few moments where the swing came perilously close to landing me on funniest home videos…but soon she found her stance and made some good cuts.

Today was one of those sweet slices of life!

WE ARE ALL WITNESSES

June 7, 2007

James_banner_254This 10 story banner hangs in Ohio…the caption, "WE ARE ALL WITNESSES".

The entire state of Ohio is riding a wave of momentum otherwise known as King James.  Lebron James.  In a short amount of time, his presence on the basketball court has unified a city.  Tonight is game one of the NBA finals…and all eyes are on Lebron to see if he can stop the dynasty that is the Spurs.

Before I turn the corner and go all spiritual on this post…please know…I LOVE LEBRON JAMES!!  I totally hope he silences everyone and pulls off a miracle and is able to win this series….I too am a witness out here in Portland OR.

But I also can’t help seeing those words…"WE ARE ALL WITNESSES"….can’t help observing the momentum and craze and discussions and time and energy that surrounds this man….and long for the same towards a much more worthy cause.  For we are all witnesses of another man as well, the true King, King Jesus.  And as awesome as King James is…and he is awesome….he can’t hold a candle to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

And as I sit behind my computer and write these words…I wonder what holds me back from sharing the awesomeness of Christ as easily as I talk about the talent of Lebron James.  Jesus has turned my life around, my marriage around, my heart around, my eternity around.  And yet I let the political correctness of my day and age, my fear of being labeled "religious" or "right wing nut" or whatever, clam up my mouth to the fact that Jesus is AMAZING….and should be proclaimed on 10 story buildings everywhere.

I want to be like Paul…who said…"I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me, the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace." (Acts 20:24)

SOLE PATROL

June 1, 2007

Nike_pic Nike_pic_2

I have a pair of Nike’s that I have owned for a few years now.  They are without a doubt the most comfortable shoes I own.  I love them.  They are like socks.  So comfortable…so soft.   I got them at the coast at the Nike Outlet Store.

From time to time my shoes become dirty…so I wash them.   Sometimes I put them in the dishwasher….sometimes I wash them by hand.

This time…I decided it would be a good idea if I put them in the washing machine…and soak them….in hot water….for hours…and then run the washing machine.   I would now like to show you just how clean they became.

What does it profit a man if he gains a clean pair of shoes…but in the end loses his sole?
