Space invaders

Draw Near

Have you ever met a space invader?  If the normal chatting distance between two talkers is a couple feet, these people have a gift of being able to stand more like 3 or 4 inches from your nose.  Suddenly your goal in life is to find a way to imperceptibly back up a couple inches so that you can breathe oxygen instead of this other person’s carbon dioxide. The really good ones somehow track with you, and when you back up, they advance and even take ground, until eventually you find yourself pinned to a wall.

There is definitely an “energy” you feel in the proximity of others isn’t there?  When you come into contact with somebody, when you draw near, you pick up on that energy, and react to it either positively or negatively.

This morning as I spent a little time with God, I found myself craving to be closer to the energy of God.  I want to be in closer proximity so that I can gain from what He is always “putting out”.  I want his selflessness to affect my selfishness.  I want His love to rub off on me so I can love others.  I want his wisdom to make me wiser.  I want His perspective to change the way I think.  I want His power to make me stronger.  I want His peace to wash over me.

James tells us to “draw near to God and He will draw near to us”.   Drawing near.  It implies action.  It involves our will, a decision to move towards God intentionally, with purpose.   How will you and I purpose to draw near to the heart of God today?  He will not consider you a space invader….He will move towards you as you seek Him out.

Proverbs 8:17  I love those who love Me, and those who seek Me will find Me.
